"American Places" is an exhibition of watercolor paintings rooted in the American built and natural landscape. The work moves across architecture and cityscape, along the coast, and into open terrain — stopping at firehouses, harbor waterfronts, concert halls, and lighthouses. Painted in transparent watercolor, the paintings are drawn to the places people pass regularly: working buildings with worn facades, shorelines where land runs out, woods that go quiet.
Lonnie Ash is a watercolorist based in Boston, Massachusetts. Over ten years of sustained practice in the medium, his work has focused on the built environment and natural landscapes. His paintings are held in private collections throughout the U.S. and have been included in multiple exhibitions, including at the Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center in Nyack, New York. "American Places" is his first solo exhibition.
