Coiled up somewhere amidst towering clusters of high art, inundating synths, and horror movie blood, Xiu Xiu’s presence has fossilized and become a monument in of itself. San Jose-born but transient since 2002, the experimental trio imprints with unmistakable force akin, perhaps, to being maimed by a severely agitated (yet meticulously groomed) pedigree cat wearing a silky pink bow. Untethered to adherence to any sonic, topical, or societal boundaries, they’ve handwritten themselves with a flourish into the annals of the library of music that altered you. Was it the melancholy of sparsely sung diary entries, the graphic descriptions of political atrocity over club-killing beats? Or when they covered your favorite TV series’ theme song (and whole soundtrack) so masterfully you swore it’d be your wedding dance (if someone had the capacity to love you someday, of course)?
Not to mention the top-tier bounty of local supporters: Harocaz’ effortless and audacious flow, Funeral Advantage’s shimmering and dreamy confections, and Sidney Gish’s downright inhuman lyrical prowess.
Our beloved Hardcore Stadium will fill up fast no doubt, so please plan accordingly if you’re trying to be present for what will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable shows of the year.
