DESCRIPTION
Thousands of innocent men and women are behind bars right now in New England, waiting for the chance to prove their innocence. Join the New England Innocence Project (NEIP) for an evening of live bluegrass at Short Path Distillery to celebrate and learn more about our Running for Innocence campaign, the funds of which directly contribute to the costs of expert case review, private investigation, DNA consultation and testing, and re-entry services for our exonerated clients. Come hear about the many ways that team members have used running to support NEIP's efforts to bring justice to our wrongfully convicted clients, learn about the many ways to support this important effort, and enjoy appetizers and drinks (cash bar)!

What is Running for Innocence?

It’s not easy to prove someone’s innocence, and it takes a long time – justice is a marathon, not a sprint. Victor Rosario knows that. During the 32 years he spent in prison for an arson murder he did not commit, Victor became a runner – if you’re wondering how many laps around a prison yard it takes to complete a 26.2 mile marathon, Victor can tell you. He ran around the yard 76 times. Running for Innocence was inspired by Victor's tenacity and endurance, and he continues to run for RFI today.
There have been 49 exonerations in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts alone. Collectively, these individuals spent over 500 years in prison for crimes they didn't commit, while the real perpetrators remained free to commit more crimes. These exonerees, sadly, are the lucky ones. There are countless more innocent men and women behind bars now, waiting for a chance to prove their innocence.

Running for Innocence will be honoring two team members, Victor Rosario and Will Swenson, who have contributed in exceptional ways to this growing team. We will also have raffle items from Laugh Boston, Truro Vineyard, Digital Photo Academy, and many more fun experiential items from the Boston area.

Whether you are a runner looking for a way to make a difference or simply want to support justice for the wrongfully convicted, join us March 8 for an evening of inspiration and commitment! Ticket proceeds will help our current runners reach their team fundraising goal of raising $7,500 by April 1.
