with filmmakers Rochelle Ruthchild and Susan Jacoby
AND Cambridge Women’s Center Director Jessye Kass
*Reservations will close on Sunday, May 24th at 10 AM*
You're invited to join the Cambridge Women’s Center and The 888 Women’s History Project for a virtual screening of ‘LEFT ON PEARL’ and a panel discussion on intergenerational Feminism.
Feminist activism is still evolving as we confront new challenges brought on by COVID-19. The pandemic is exposing inequalities while disproportionately affecting those who historically have had little visibility, voice, or protection. 'LEFT ON PEARL' is a documentary about a highly significant but little-known event in the history of the women's liberation movement, the 1971 takeover and occupation of a Harvard University-owned building by hundreds of Boston area women. The ten-day occupation of 888 Memorial Drive by women demanding a Women’s Center and low income housing for the local community, embodied within it many of the hopes, triumphs, conflicts and tensions of Second Wave feminism. One of the few such takeovers by women for women, this action was transformative for the participants, and led directly to the establishment of the Cambridge Women’s Center in 1972. (Runtime: 55 mins)
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Purchase your ticket at the link in this event: https://secure.givelively.org/event/cambridge-womens-center/left-on-pearl-exclusive-screening-panel-discussion
**All registered attendees will get the link and password to stream ‘LEFT ON PEARL’ 72 hours prior to the panel discussion. Watch the film anytime before 7pm on Wednesday, May 27th and then tune into an exclusive discussion with filmmakers and the current Director of the Cambridge Women’s Center.
**Our planned Spring fundraiser was cancelled due to the pandemic. Screening 'LEFT ON PEARL' now offers us a way to be inspired during our time in isolation from each other. We hope that many of you will want to send in an optional donation after seeing the film. Your donation will help support the Cambridge Women’s Center to prepare for its costly re-opening and an uncertain future, and help The 888 Women’s History Project bring this important documentary to a wider audience.
2. Watch, Participate, & Spread the word!
**Watch ‘LEFT ON PEARL’ wherever you’re safely distancing! We recommended finding a comfortable spot where you can watch uninterrupted for the 55 minute runtime.
**Organize a virtual screening with friends, family, co-workers, classmates, etc. anytime between Sunday May 25th – Wednesday, May 27th @5/6pm (so you can finish your screening before our panel discussion!)
**Share this opportunity with your communities on Facebook and Instagram!
