Layers of Beauty
Both painting from observation and my printed photographs have played important roles in recent paintings. These works include distinct, iconic art historical references to Drawing; Landscape painting and Still Life.
Photographs, shot in a wide scope of settings can be selected and enlarged and then printed on canvas. Or intimacy of a small canvas opens up to reveal rich layers of beauty. The curtain rises and like a stage play, the drama begins.
The details are explored and explained and pictorial painted language pursued.
Landscapes, either intimate or broad, invite visual traveling across the surface and into the illusion of space. Details are explored and re-stated through direct painting or swirls of animated washes of color.
