This three-hour lesson from a local professional photographer will help you strengthen your image quality through various techniques including angle, framing, lighting, depth of field, and more. The setting for this evening experience will take advantage of the golden hour (beautiful pre-night light) while also allowing students to practice photography with a rustic New England background at America’s oldest functioning farm, Appleton Farms in Ipswich, MA. Fences, trees, hills, and more classic landscape objects will provide great backdrops to the perfect portrait.


No experience is required, but camera operations will not be covered, so you should bring whatever camera you know how to operate well (even your phone is fine). You may choose to be the subject of the portraits for others throughout the lesson, and you can also invite a friend along to share in the experience as long as they also register on Ridj-it for the adventure.


The beginning of this experience will start with a more general view of the farm operations at 3:30 PM where dairy cows will be in the process of milking, and Appleton Farms will also serve its signature cheeses during the introduction of exemplary photos and pre-field pointers by the artist.


Wear walking shoes and comfortable clothing, and this class will take place rain or shine using the abundant farm structures if needed.
