Somerville Songwriter Sessions at the Armory Cafe presents contemporary folk singer/songwriters in concert, on the first Saturday of each month. The Armory Cafe features live music in an intimate setting, a menu featuring sandwiches, soups, desserts and coffees, and plenty of free parking. Our 1/4 performers:

With elements of Americana, folk, country, and blues, singer/songwriter Kirsten Manville creates songs that feel like they may have come straight from journal entries. Deceptively simple lyrics paint pictures, tell stories, and evoke a range of emotions. From the pain of finding and losing love and hard times in a down-on-its-luck town to the small pleasures of line-dried laundry and homemade pie and the escapism of a romantic night for two, Kirsten's warm and sultry voice draws the listener in, infusing the songs with feeling and depth. Her latest album Some People Sing was a Top 5 album pick in the January 2018 issue of Metronome Magazine, and Kirsten was featured on the cover of the magazine in March 2018. Her song "...but Down" was included in the Alternate Root Magazine's weekly top 10 in November of 2017. Kirsten performs regularly in the Northeast, and has had the honor of opening for well-known folk artists Don White and Joe Jencks. More at http://kirstenmanville.com.

Winner of the Boston Folk Festival's Songwriter Contest and two-time recipient of Club Passim's Iguana Music Fund Grant, Molly Pinto Madigan is a young songwriter who has earned praise for her angelic voice. Filled with smoke and roses, heartbreak and beauty and unrelenting hope, her songs combine haunting melodies with raw, poetic lyrics to create an intimate and evocative listening experience. Mark Bishop Evans grew up in southern California where his major musical influences were Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Paul Simon, the Beach Boys and pretty much any folk, folk-rock or beach music. Listening and playing the folk and protest music of the 60's inspired him to begin writing his own songs. Mark has a way with words and melodies, bringing them together in pleasant and poignant combinations that make you want to tap your feet and sing along. His music is an intriguing blend of folk, folk-rock and ballads, lyrically rich in emotional content and melodically comfortable like a favorite jacket. Mark relocated north of Boston, Massachusetts in the 1990s and today considers himself a "Noreasta." More at http://www.markbishopevans.net.
