Freestyle dance is much like a big wooden playground—it must be built before playing—and the more careful attention put forth into it’s conception, than the more one can playfully challenge that structure in bizarre and creative ways.


For growth, we find it most beneficial to apply dancing after our technical instruction. Half the class is spent on conversation and technique, the other half is invested in actual dancing (usually a Cypher with pointers provided on the side). Every class is different, but our mission is always to have fun, and be sure each student walks away with something new to practice.


In Hip-Hop culture, a cypher is essentially a respectful unification of the minds, generally sharing knowledge on the Hip-Hop art in practice. For new eyes, a BBoying/BGirling cypher may look like it’s a general circle of dance. This is understandably incorrect; a Breaking cypher can range and fluctuate between extremely chill to loudly energetic.
