What happens when a Depression-era seamstress tries to flee a big-city scandal but finds that she just can't escape trouble?
Jamaica Plain resident Beth Castrodale answers this question and more in her début novel, Marion Hatley. She'll be reading from it at JP Knit & Stitch at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 12th. A Q&A and book signing will follow.
Kirkus Reviews calls Marion Hatley a “reflective, compassionate, and gracefully written tale.” The story centers on the title character’s hopes of trading the bustling hubbub of a Pittsburgh lingerie shop—and her reputation-tainting affair with a married man—for the dutiful quiet of tending to her sick aunt.
Instead, Marion finds herself unraveling uncomfortable secrets about herself and those closest to her—secrets whose revelation could change the way she sees her family and herself.
Castrodale says, "Given Marion's work as a seamstress, I'm thrilled that I'll have the opportunity to share a bit of her story at JP Knit & Stitch, which has been such a vibrant part of the JP community."
