Joslin Diabetes Center will host its 14th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, March 25th from 10:00am – 12:00pm. The clinic is a fun, engaging opportunity for young patients living with diabetes and their families to learn about diabetes management and establishing healthy habits.
Each child will have the opportunity to pick a teddy bear or bring their own favorite stuffed animal, and will learn how to care for their new friend as they make their rounds to the various medical stations with their bear’s medical record. Stations include:
• measuring the bear’s height with a ruler,
• taking its blood pressure,
• checking their bear’s blood sugar and giving it insulin if needed,
• learning how to brush and floss its teeth,
• taking it grocery shopping for healthy foods or
• giving it an eye exam in the eye clinic.
The stations will be staffed by teenage Joslin patient volunteers and students from local Boston area colleges. Teddy bears used for this clinic are donated by the Four Seasons Hotel.
Attendees are asked to RSVP for the Teddy Bear Clinic by emailing [email protected] or calling 617-309-4528 and leaving a message with how many children and adults will be attending.
