Jordan Tice is a guitarist and composer from Annapolis, MD who currently makes his home in Brooklyn, NY. The son of two bluegrass musicians, he grew up playing with various bluegrass bands around Maryland until 2005 when he enrolled at Towson University to study music on full scholarship. He released his first record of original music "No Place Better" at the age of 17 to rave reviews and followed that with the record "Corbett, Chrisman, and Tice" featuring Wes Corbett on banjo and Simon Chrisman on hammered dulcimer which was listed as one of the Chicago Tribune's top 5 "best compact discs of the year" in the bluegrass/newgrass category in 2008. Also in 2008, Jordan released his second record as a leader entitled "Long Story". The record, featuring all Tice originals as well as an all-star band of Casey Driessen, Noam Pikelny, Andy Hall, and Mark Schatz, brought about rave reviews from acoustic music publications for its "engaging and melodic tunes" and "inspired solos" (Bluegrass Unlimited) as well as being a "very musical album" (The Bluegrass Blog). Jordan's third record "The Secret History" featuring Paul Kowert on bass and Simon Chrisman on hammered dulcimer ventured a bit further from Jordan's Roots with longer more ethereal winding compositions and soundscapes that Bluegrass Unlimited praised as "impressive" and containing "exceptional craft".
In addition to his solo work, Jordan has worked with the likes of Mark Schatz and friends, Frank Wakefield, Darol Anger, and Tony Trischka. Other highlights include being featured on the cover of the January 2011 Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and performing the music of actor/comedian Steve Martin for Shakespeare's "As You Like It" at New York City's esteemed "Shakespeare in the Park" in summer 2012.
Jordan currently plays in the trio Haas Kowert Tice with fiddler Brittany Haas and bassist Paul Kowert. Their new record, "You Got This" is currently garnering some positive press. He also performs with the fiddle/percussive dance group 4tet, in a duo with Hammered Dulcimer Player Simon Chrisman and as a sideman with many different artists around the US.
