We’re back again for the 7th Annual Jog Your Memory 5K and 1.5 mile walk for Alzheimer’s and this year we’re going virtual September 12th -13th. Whether you’ll take it to the road or trail or beach or treadmill, we’ll be going the distance while keeping distant and running down Alzheimer’s.
What’s a virtual 5K?
Due to unprecedented circumstances, we’re taking our local 5K and going virtual. This format allows you to complete a 5K or 1.5 Mile Walk any time the weekend of September 12th-13th safely while keeping distant.
Here’s how it’ll work:
Register on our race home page.
Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to get involved and learn how to make your virtual run or walk special.
Then the weekend of September 12th, prep your starting and finish line and go!
After you've crossed the finish line, record your time and tune-in to our live race day updates on our social media.
Why We Run
2020 has tested our resolve in every aspect of our lives, but it has also deepened the need for our work on behalf of some of the most vulnerable populations. COVID-19 has disproportionately affected families and people with Alzheimer’s, with over 15,000 people with Alzheimer’s having passed prematurely in recent months from COVID.
Months have passed since many of us have been able to see or touch our loved ones and are struggling – just imagine what that must feel like for someone living with Alzheimer’s. Your $25 registration fee goes towards Cure Alzheimer’s Fund and supporting caregivers coping with the stress and uncertainty of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s.
Who we are
In 2014, Jess and Bob Rice of Needham, Massachusetts founded Jog Your Memory 5K, Inc. (JYM), an accredited 501c3 and annual USATF certified 5K run and 1.5-mile walk to support research aimed at ending Alzheimer's. Jess' mother, Carol Caley, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2007, and the Caley and Rice families continue to be inspired by the strength Carol shows battling the disease.
With the collective power of our Board of Directors, every year we strive to do better, raise more awareness, and help caregivers and their loved ones.
Our Board: Dick Caley, Sarah French Gibbons, Kelsey Martin, Ryan McKee, Kevon McKeon, Harry Stants, and Bob and Jess Rice
Part of the Needham Bank Race series, Jog Your Memory always keeps Alzheimer’s disease and hope for a cure at the forefront. In addition to funding research through CureAlz, JYM added a Caregiver Grant in 2016, giving families dealing with the disease access to geriatric consultation, respite care and temporary financial relief from lost incomes while caring for their loved ones. Today 80 percent of the event’s proceeds are directed to CureAlz and 20 percent go to supporting caregivers.
