For those who've hiked it all, been there and done that, our intro to ice climbing course offers a natural avenue of progression. Granted, ice climbing is a riskier sport ? it can be rough on those bitter days and many won't like it ? but for some the extra edge, the danger, the risk, and the freedom of the hills (like the book) that comes with it makes the discomfort and other elements in the ice climber's day worth the price. This course will, as the name implies, introduce you to the ice and the sport of climbing it.


Learn the fundamentals of ice climbing in this course lasting 6-8 hours. From car to ice and back again, understand all of the basic aspects of spending the day safely top-roping at one of several gorgeous locations available local to the Mt Washington Valley. From etiquette, to LNT, get a complete overviews, and that?s just to beginning. Learn to belay, about body position, weight distribution, and your stance. Learn how to be relaxed yet firm as you swing your ice tools with precision. Learn to move with certified guides from Redline Guiding. This normally runs $250 per person.


If you live north of Boston you can be picked up at a Park & Ride if you wish, otherwise you may meet everyone at the destination. Previous experience hiking at least Mt. Monadnock qualifies you to join.


Covid-19 Protocols and Guidelines:


1. Participants will be be checked for temperature, blood-oxygen saturation, and asked a series of questions to help ascertain that they are in fact Covid-free. Safety first.


2. Anyone coming into our facility for any reason will be required to wear a mask and have it properly fitted.


3. We will NOT require masks be worn on the climb or during training, but social distancing will be respected in both directions. If distancing cannot be respected, a mask shall be worn. This may include encounters with other climbers. Nice thing about winter is those aerosols are visible. We can duck, bob, and weave.


Adventure Ticket is refundable up to 2 weeks in advance; 5 days before the event and you will receive a credit. Cancellations made less than five days will result in no refund or credit. Accommodation is refundable up to two weeks in advance. After that no refund or credit will be offered. Mountaineering rentals and boots are both 100% refundable. Cancellation/credit rules apply even if reporting illness - guides, lodging staff, and others still have to make a living.


Gratuities
Our guides graciously accept gratuities. After all, your life is in their hands on the mountain. A tip of 15-20% is a common way of showing your appreciation of the guide's skills and decision-making. Of course cash is greatly appreciated.
