German artist Max Klinger (1857-1920) has long been celebrated for his imaginative print cycles that blend innovative compositions with often fantastical subjects. A recent acquisition by the Davis, the playful plates of Klinger’s Intermezzi cycle present the artist’s unique blend of romanticism and symbolism, and demonstrate his extraordinary facility with intaglio printing.
