Encompassing more than a million species, insects are the largest group of animals on earth and they are finally capturing our attention in a positive way! People are beginning to realize insects are essential for a healthy, sustainable environment. They are also fascinating, beautiful, even fantastical creatures that are fun and captivating to watch.
This program is for individuals who want to learn more about insects, how and where to find them. We will begin with a presentation and discussion of 6 common insect orders: learning their unique characteristics and how to recognize them. We’ll conclude with a walk through various habitats of the sanctuary with tips on how and where to find insects that inhabit ponds, fields, and forest. Bring a hand lens if you have one; we will have loaners if you don't. Close focus binoculars and camera are optional.
Also open to children age 12 or older with an adult.
