In Her Shoes 5k

5 kilometers: the minimum distance she would have to walk to the nearest hospital to give birth safely in rural Ghana. That’s 5 kilometers she has to walk in labor in hot, unyielding sun in dry season or torrential storms in rainy season. But who is “she”? She is not just one woman; she is the multitude of women who have given birth on the side of the road walking to seek medical care. She is the woman who has had 9 children and never once received postnatal care. She is the woman who fears for her unborn baby’s life but has no way of getting to the care they need.
