"And as I was green and carefree..."


The Horizon Ensemble has always been proud to present music by young local composers. In Visions of Youth, let's celebrate our young composer friends and historical composers in their early days! Join us on Sunday, November 9 at 3:00 PM in the Church of the Covenant on 67 Newbury Street in Back Bay for a wacky, vibrant show.


We'll start with the passionate Ballade by British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Then, Luciano Lopez Parnetti's Quansoo conjures a beach of Martha's Vineyard through Latin rhythms and minimalist textures. In h.a.g.s., countess báthory :), reinier potgieter commemorates a mythically bloodthirsty Hungarian countess through quiet, subtle gestures. We find our way through Stella G. Gitelman Willoughby's Clouds of Disbelief, free-flowing and floating. Finally, we'll play Modest Mussorgsky's wild Night on Bald Mountain, in its rare original version.


Clouds of Disbelief will feature a special appearance by the Janelle Gilchrist Dance Troupe. After the concert, we'll invite our three composer friends for Our Visions of Youth, a group conversation about life as a composer in the modern era.


This is a pay-what-you-can concert, with suggested donation of $25. We will collect donations in person at the concert, or you can find us on Venmo at @HorizonEnsemble. This concert is wheelchair-accessible. No bright or flashing lights are allowed at this event.
