Amy Kucharik & Tiger Moan and the Rubin Brothers, two swing and blues dance bands, will perform a holiday concert Sunday, December 19, 2021 at at the Burren Backroom in Somerville, MA. Doors open at 6pm and music begins at 7pm with space for dancing or dining. The show is all-ages and family-friendly. The Burren will be checking proof of vaccination. About the event, Bandleader Amy Kucharik said, “We’re excited to return to our favorite stage in the cozy Burren Backroom. We’ll be sure to keep people dancing with plenty of lighthearted swing and blues, and just enough holiday songs to make it festive.”
Amy Kucharik [/kuh-CHAR-ick/] (http://www.amykucharik.com/) is a Somerville-based songwriter and performer who draws from blues, folk and Vaudeville traditions and got her start playing ukulele in the subways of Boston. Her music has drawn comparisons to Maria Muldaur, Lake Street Dive, and Anais Mitchell. Amy was a Kerrville New Folk winner in 2015 and a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist for 2018. Her band Tiger Moan (https://www.facebook.com/tigermoanband ) features top New England musicians including Tim Lewandowski (Baker Thomas Band), trombone, Ariel Bernstein (Cold Chocolate), drums, and NEC Jazz Performance Master Michael Valdez on piano. The band specializes in early 20th Century blues as well as Amy’s original songs.
The Rubin Bros, A.J. and Colescott Rubin, (https://www.instagram.com/rubinbrothers/ ) are instrumentalists, vocalists, old school entertainers, & jazz clowns from Portland, Oregon who perform jazz, blues, and popular songs of yesteryear with a lighthearted energy and danceable beat. Students and staff of Berklee College of Music respectively, they have performed festivals and clubs in New Orleans, San Diego, Moscow, Barcelona, Buenos Aires and more. They have performed, recorded, and/or collaborated with Esperanza Spalding, Catherine Russell, Charmaine Neville and John Legend, among others.
