Bag two 4000 footers with a hike to the Hancocks. The total length of this hike is 9.8 miles and is rated as moderate. Mt. Hancock has an elevation of 4380’ and South Hancock has an elevation of 4278’. This will take 6.5-7 hours to complete depending on our pace.


We will meet in the Hancock overlook parking area on rte. 112 (the overlook by the hairpin turn on the Kancamangus highway). From here, we will hike on the Hancock notch trail for 1.8 miles. At this point, the trail splits and we’ll go left for another 0.7 miles towards the Hancock loop trail. The Hancock loop trail goes for about a mile before the actual mini begins across Mt. Hancock and South Hancock. After completing the loop, we’ll retrace our steps back down the Hancock notch trail to the parking area.


• What to bring
Please bring the following: Full winter clothing (non-cotton layers, wind/rain shell, insulated boots, warm hat and gloves, etc.) Also have mountaineering snowshoes, microspikes or crampons, headlamps, plenty of food, and make sure your water won't freeze.
