Bag 2 5000 footers in a day! Mount Madison (5367 ft) and Mount Adams (5774 ft). We will be hiking via the Valley Way Trail which is about 9.2 mile point-to-point trail (expect up to 10.4 miles). See the all trails map here. This is a difficult hike, unless you have previous 4000 footer experience, do not sign up. You know your fitness better than us.
We will take the blue blaze towards valley way which gradually ascends for a good distance paralleling snyder brook. A couple of miles in the trial gets steeper as it ascends the slopes of durand ridge. Breaks in the treeline provides partial views of Madison and Gordon ridge. At about 3 miles, we could take a quick break at valley way campsite and ascend towards mount madison via gulfside trail. After a short break here, we head towards Mount Adams through Gulfside trail merging on Star lake trail descend via air line trail and merge to valley way to the parking lot.


Gear:


* Hiking/trail shoes - absolutely no sneakers


* 2 - 3 liters of water


* Snack and or food


* Backpack to hold your stuff


* Non cotton layers ( it gets colder)


* Map of the hike (you are better off downloading offline version of the trail and actual maps are helpful as well)


Optional:


* Sunscreen


* Hat


* Electrolytes


* Trekking poles


* Rain Gear ( weather dependent - absolutely required)


* Bug spray


* Emergency supplies


* Extra clothing in case you get wet or need to change (weather dependent)


Expectations:
This is not a beginner hike. You must be in good shape. Recent hiking experience required. this is a difficult hike, You can go on a slow pace or be a bolt and rush through, you are not getting a medal/prize. You must have the supplies above or you will be turned away before leaving the carpool spot. You are responsible for having a map of this hike; this is not a guided hike. You are joining like-minded enthusiasts and are responsible for your own safety.
