At 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 6, Downtown Framingham, Inc. will host a virtual, public dedication ceremony to commemorate the install of the Harmony Grove Welcome Arch on Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/DowntownFramingham/live/
Due to ongoing pandemic, the actual installation will be held privately prior to the live broadcast. The mission of the Harmony Grove Welcome Arch is to create a highly visible reminder of the brave social justice work that was cultivated in this natural amphitheater throughout the past 200 years.
Specifically, the structure honors the activism of the Anti-Slavery Society and Women's Suffragette movements, among many other causes, which also includes support for the grove's natural and recreational amenities. Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Sojourner Truth, and more past and present social justice heroes connected to the spirit and mission of Harmony Grove can be found at downtownframinghaminc.org/harmonygrove
Visitors to the arch are asked to:
- pause here to commemorate the lasting impact of Harmony Grove's human rights heroes,
- stay here to discuss actions needed to further instill and spread liberty and justice for all, and
- remain here to help protect the environment of Harmony Grove, including Farm Pond and its vast ecosystem.
