There is little doubt that Hammond’s favorite time of year was October. He had surrounded himself with objects from antiquity and felt a connection with the spirits of the original owners or artisans who created these objects. House guests that were invited to visit during October were never quite sure what Hammond had in store for them, especially after the sunset, and the candles were lit.

Hammond & Horror - A Temporary Exhibit

This Halloween season, Hammond Castle Museum is exploring John Hays Hammond, Jr's sci-fi genre writings.

In conjunction with the "Creature Feature" live performances, the Museum is also offering "Hammond and Horror: A Temporary Exhibit" featuring select pieces of Hammond’s horror-genre writings maintained within our archival collection. Believed to have all been written between the 1930s and 1950s, Hammond wrote approximately 20 various pieces of fiction during his years at the Castle. The centerpiece of the exhibit will be an animated adaptation of “The Termite Monster” in the retro, “3-D movie” tradition, with provided red and blue glasses. This short, silent film will play on a loop throughout the duration of the exhibit. The exhibit runs from October 5th to October 31st. Guest may purchase general admission tickets to view the exhibit.
