Join Grrl Haus Cinema Wed, May 6 at The Brattle for BEST OF SHORTS, featuring two unique programs of DIY and experimental shorts by women, trans, and non-binary filmmakers at 7:00 & 9:00pm!

This event brings together an international and local lineup spanning experimental animation, tender drama, playful absurdity, intimate suspense, surreal comedy, and documentaries reclaiming marginalized stories. The films explore themes including political censorship, global political violence, and the dangers of AI, while also centering queer joy, intimacy, self-acceptance, bodily autonomy, and collective care. At a time when community and solidarity are essential, these films offer space for reflection, resistance, and connection.

Highlights from the Brattle program include:

Billo Rani (Angbeen Saleem) — A comedy about a girl at Islamic Sunday School who discovers her unibrow during a lesson on “cleanliness,” only to have her eyebrows come alive and speak to her.

Saturn Risin9 (Tiare Ribeaux & Jody Stillwater) — Queer performance artist Saturn Risin9 returns to the Bay Area, sharing a poetic journey of self-discovery, healing, and creative growth.

Los Tres Antifaces: The First Body (Angel Rojas) — An experimental documentary exploring generational trauma from colonialism, tracing a family’s diasporic history from Peru to the U.S.

Climate Control (Sarah Lasley) — A metafictional comedy about the climate crisis and its connection to generative AI, where a director making a documentary about fossil fuel extraction is subverted by an AI agent.

Under the Whether (Putri Sarah Amelia) — A woman navigating perimenopause tries to replace her busy daughter with a cat—only to discover the cat is in puberty.

ANADROMOUS (Ari Grubb) — Two fish evolve out of their aquarium home, embarking on a musical journey of queer joy, self-acceptance, and community at a freaky fish gay bar in the ocean’s depths.
