Steve Roddy was 23 and working at the Cheesecake Factory when he decided to buy a professional football team. After reading a Sports Illustrated article about the topic he thought it was a good time to buy. Steve never really thought of his story as extraordinary but one night he got up at a story slam at Doyles Cafe in Jamaica Plain he captivated the audience with his offbeat and quirky tale and won first prize.

He is now joining 16 other winning tellers from South Shore Story Slams and Doyles Cafe in Jamaica Plain and will be competing in the Grand Slam Story Slam at the Company Theater in Norwell.

This season there have been storytellers from all walks of life including an actress, a lawyer, an engineer a beauty pageant host to name a few. The slams have been sold out at all south shore locations and Doyles Cafe in JP. Audiences have come to love an appreciate stories and storytelling for adults on the South Shore.

On May 5th at 7:30p.m. (doors open 7p.m.). All winners will gather to compete for the grand prize a which is a vacation in Wells, Maine donated by Nicolette Nordin Heavey and Stories in the Streets.
Our special guest Jann Tenebaum from Hingham. She is the winner of last year’s Grand Slam. The event will be judged by a top secret celebrity panel.
