This is a special event in honor of Isabella Stewart Gardner's birthday.
The day will be celebrated through pop-up performance of a polyphonic Requiem mass, sung in the courtyard of the Museum’s majestic, historic Palace. Surrounded by the spectacular hanging nasturtiums, that have long-marked springtime in Boston and at the Gardner, this performance is sure to awaken your senses.
The Vox Vocal Ensemble, one of the country’s leading exponents of modern and Renaissance music, and members of New York Polyphony, will sing Manuel Cardoso’s luminous Requiem. In addition, members of New York Polyphony, will step out from the group to perform 21st-century works by Andrew Smith, Ivan Moody and Jackson Hill, marrying contemporary responses to ancient traditions of liturgical music.
Please join us and our new Visiting Curator of Performing Arts, George Steel, in celebrating all that Isabella has created. Free with Museum admission.
