Curious about the world of fused glass? Fusing Fundamentals is a comprehensive three-week course designed to give you the confidence and foundational skills to begin your fusing journey. Whether you're completely new to kiln forming or looking to build a solid understanding before advancing, this class is the perfect place to start.
All materials are provided, allowing you to explore a variety of essential techniques and materials while creating beautiful finished projects each week.
Week 1: The Fundamentals
We'll begin with the building blocks of successful fusing. You'll learn about kiln behavior, firing schedules, and glass compatibility while creating a series of test tiles that will become valuable references for future projects. We'll also create a stunning glass-on-edge nightlight using a tack fuse, capturing the movement and beauty of flowing water in glass.
Week 2: Exploring the World of Fusing
Expand your creative toolbox as we work with the incredible variety of materials available to fused glass artists, including frit, stringers, dots, murrini, glass paints, and vitrigraph stringers. You'll use these materials to design a beautiful landscape on a standing wave plate while learning contour fusing and exploring the art of slumping.
Week 3: Taking It Further
Finish the course with an introduction to full fusing techniques. You'll create a striking stacked glass project while learning the highly sought-after flow technique, opening the door to even more creative possibilities.
This course is designed as the perfect stepping stone into our Fused Glass Masterclass. It's an opportunity to dip your toes into the exciting world of kiln-formed glass, develop a strong technical foundation, and discover the endless creative possibilities that await before diving into more advanced projects and techniques.
