Fresh Dance Friday is an informal, free performance series at Green Street Street Studios. It provides local artists the opportunity to show work in progress and receive feedback, as well as a casual welcoming environment for dance audiences new and old to see new dances, ask questions and make connections.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Elizabeth (Lizzy) Mulkey is a bi-coastal artist from Venice Beach, California. She received her BA in Dance from Loyola Marymount University. She has made a rewarding career as a Pilates and Yoga teacher, working with dancers and a variety of other fun human beings. Her somatic work and acting experience continue to inform and inspire her dance aesthetic. She works with set and spontaneous improv scores, which she happily sees drive whoever dances with her to feel a personal story-hood and ownership of the movement within a performance. Elizabeth was awarded the XYZ NYC champion for 2013 at The Tank Theater, an off-Broadway non-profit theater. This lent her her first opportunity to make an evening long performance, "Distractions" in 2014. Bouncing/driving from coast to coast often in the last 2 years, she put together a cross-country-dance-photography book titled "Jump", where the shape she uses is the fetal position seemingly floating in the air. She and her fellow improviser Evan Hart Marsh collaborated with Cincinnati musicians Jess Lamb and The Factory in creating an improv music video and a live music pop up show on Venice Beach in 2016 . Then, a second pop up show "Dances-In-Progress", for Mar Vista Art Walk, where she put up "Shifting." Most recently she filmed "Blue" with her sister, Amelia Mulkey, and her sister's production company The Clock Factory. Over the summer, she attended Bates International Dance Festival in Maine and Lion's Jaw in Boston. Currently located in Boston, she is excited to learn from this place's feels and thinks. Its important to her to find space wherever she is to teach a guided-improv-dance-flow-play class to get movers and non-movers into the inventing and seeing state. Finally, she is forever and always collecting footage to create a digital performance art piece currently in the making.
