Free Summer Concert

Koliba Afro Pop is an 8 piece Afro Pop band led by Mohammad Kalifa Kamara of W Africa. The band performs original and traditional music based on rhythms and styles a W Africa. The band blends styles of Africa with contemporary American and European sounds and has performed at First Nights in Boston Worcester Providence Westerly and at Peabody Essex Museum Boston Arts Festival and Cambridge River Festival.

Audiences always dance to the music of Kalifa and Koliba and leader Mohammad, a drummer dancer and singer is a charismatic performer and former Artistic Director of African Ballet of Gambia and has performed extensively throughout Africa, Europe and the US.

Their stage is the open space next to the Newton Centre playground and just down the hill from the Tyler Terrace hut. With free open-air seating in this vast park space, there is plenty of room for families, friends, groups large and small to come together and enjoy diverse musical styles. Bring along a blanket, a chair a picnic dinner, and join us for these summer performances in the park!

The park is a short distance from Newton Centre where there is plenty of parking and restaurants for you to choose from.

Additional parking is available on Tyler Terrace and at the Mason Rice School parking lot. Check our website for updates on any unexpected changes to the schedule.
