All MBTA services will be free again this year for travel on New Year's Eve and the first few hours of 2020.
Free services begin at 8pm Tuesday and will continue until the end of service on Wednesday morning.
"The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is advising the public to plan ahead for the New Year’s holiday, to drive sober and to take note of holiday schedules," officials said.
Subway lines will start Tuesday on a weekend schedule, then ratchet up to rush hour levels by 3pm. Service will continue through 2am and then resume Wednesday, following a Sunday schedule.
Commuter Rail trains will also operate on a weekday schedule Tuesday and provide late-night service, including all stops. The service will operate on a Sunday schedule for Wednesday.
Buses, ferries and The RIDE will operate on weekday schedules on Tuesday. Buses and The RIDE will use a Sunday schedule for Wednesday, while all ferry services will be suspended.
