Colonial New Englanders were prolific imbibers, drinking roughly three times as much alcohol modern Americans. Drinking was not only a means of physical and emotional survival but also the driving force behind the growing popularity of taverns that played a vital role in colonial political and social life.

Join us for a walking tour of authentic colonial New England cocktails. Meet at Otis House (where Harrison and Sally Otis entertained in high Federal style!) for a brief, spirited illustrated introduction to the drinking habits of colonial New Englanders. Then walk to the historic Green Dragon Tavern, where the rakish Ambrose Gosling treats you to your choice of a “Rattleskull,” “Stone Fence,” or his famous “Rum Punch” (a.k.a. Dark ‘n Stormy), as he takes a pinch of George III's snuff and performs sea shanties on his concertina. Huzzah!

Must be 21 years old. Mask, proof of vaccination, and ID required.

This program is offered jointly with the West End Museum. Proceeds benefit both organizations.
