Since 1975, Boston’s First Night has been a New Year’s Eve celebration of artistic performances, the wonders of the season, and the beginning of a new year. In keeping with this fantastic Boston tradition, the First Night celebration will open 2022 with an array of performances.
The celebration kicks off at noon on December 31st with live performances centered around Copley Square. In the afternoon and evening, the ice sculptures light up and live bands begin to play. A procession makes its way over to Boston Common at around 5:30p.m., and families can then enjoy the ice skating spectacular on the Frog Pond. At 7p.m., the first fireworks show first fireworks show will light up the sky over Boston Common. Festivities will continue until midnight, when a final fireworks show kicks off 2022 and illuminates Boston Harbor. You can also ring in the New Year with the Countdown on Copley, an incredible pyrotechnics show launched from the roof of the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel.
Nearly all indoor performances have been moved outdoors to ensure that people are safe and social distancing. All attendees are encouraged to wear a mask in crowded areas.
