Join BSA Space for a screening of Uncommon Sense: The Life and Architecture of Laurie Baker.
Synopsis
British-born Laurie Baker is remembered as one of India’s leading architects, particularly renowned for his efforts in cost-effective, sustainable housing. Following his extensive travels across China, the Himalayas and India, he eventually settled down in Kerala in 1969 for the remainder of his career.
While Baker’s work is well-known, the personal story that led up to his design style is not, and Vineet Radhakrishnan, Baker’s grandson, sheds new light on the man behind the architecture. “Uncommon Sense: The Life and Architecture of Laurie Baker” is Radhakrishnan’s tribute to the work of his grandfather, but it is also a poignant reflection on architecture and design practices that are increasingly relevant to the world today.
