Join teaching artist Nicole Gsell in an exploration of "Daniel Chester French: The Female Form Revealed" to discover how the artist’s work commemorates important events and ideas. After visiting the exhibition gallery, young participants will try their own hand at figure drawing, working independently on a small figure drawing or collaboratively on a life-sized drawing while experimenting with different poses, shapes, and other artistic details. Recommended for children ages 5 and up.
Nicole Gsell holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration and a concentration in English from the Rhode Island School Design as well as a Master of Arts in art education from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She teaches art at Henderson Inclusionary Elementary School and Brookline Arts Center. Gsell has illustrated three published books: "We Are Twins! The Story of Sam and Ben"; "The Tremendous Pagoda Tree"; and "Spit and Sticks: A Chimney Full of Swifts".
Registration is not required.

The Athenæum's five galleried floors overlook the peaceful Granary Burying Ground, and, as Gamaliel Bradford wrote in 1931, "it is safe to say that [no library] anywhere has more an atmosphere of its own, that none is more conducive to intellectual aspiration and spiritual peace." The building was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
