Family Open House: Birds, Banding & Books for the Holidays

Tis the season for watching wintering birds in the forest or at the feeders, and the colder weather and shorter days are perfect for cozying up with a good book. This free family event celebrates both of these winter pastimes! Drop in for live winter bird banding demonstrations with Ben Flemer from 10:00 am-1:00 pm, a reading of children's book "Bird Count" with author Susan Edwards Richmond at 11:00 am, and a live drawing session with illustrator and author Mark Hoffman at 1:00 pm. Enjoy table-top science displays, take-home holiday crafts, and take-home ingredients to make festive bird feeder treats to help attract birds to your yard this winter. We hope you can join us for this holiday feather fest!

Our special guests today are Susan Edwards Richmond and Mark Hoffmann. Susan Edwards Richmond is the author of "Bird Count," which has been selected as a Parents' Choice Silver Award Winner and has been nominated for a 2019 CYBILS Fiction Picture Book award. Mark Hoffmann, the award-winning illustrator, painter, author, and professor, is the illustrator of "Hawks Kettle, Puffins Wheel and Other Poems of Birds in Flight." Participants may purchase copies of "Bird Count" or "Hawks Kettle, Puffins Wheel" signed by the author or illustrator.

This program is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by adults. This is a rain-or-shine event.
