How do birds know when to migrate—and where to go? This workshop looks at the internal clocks and environmental signals that guide fall migration, with a spotlight on local species and their seasonal journeys. We’ll discuss changing migratory patterns, the role of climate change, and how birders can contribute valuable data through community science. Participants will use maps and banding data to track real migration routes of species like warblers, hawks, and shorebirds. A “migratory obstacle course” simulation will demonstrate the challenges birds face en route with optional field guides provided and tips on the best local spots to observe migration.
