Every Present Thing a Ghost Chapbook Launch & Poetry Reading

Join us for the launch of poet Rebecca Doverspike's new debut chapbook, Every Present Thing a Ghost. Doverspike will be reading with local Boston poets Keegan Lester, Maria Pinto, Walter Smelt, and Jaime Zuckerman.

Rebecca Doverspike is currently finishing an Mdiv at Harvard Divinity School focused on Buddhism and interfaith hospital chaplaincy. She grew up in the Wisconsin, wherein began a lifelong love for trees, books, deep conversations, long walks, and bike rides. She holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from West Virginia University. Her chapbook, Every Present Thing a Ghost, was published in March 2019 by Slapering Hol Press. Previous work has appeared or is forthcoming in Ruminate, Leveler, Souvenir Lit Journal, Midwest Review, Valley Voices, and Periphery among others. While studying in Boston she has also loved hiking in the White Mountains, practicing at Greater Boston Zen Center, and walking her dog on old streets where roots crack through the brick. Upon graduation she will continue chaplaincy training in a residency program at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Keegan Lester is the author of the collection of poetry "this shouldn't be beautiful but it was and it was all i had so i drew it." His work has appeared in The Journal, The Boston Review, Poem A Day, Cutbank and Sixthfinch among others and is being anthologized in volume 3. of Bettering American Poetry.

Maria Pinto's prose has appeared in Necessary Fiction, Word Riot, and FriGG, among other journals, and she has been awarded fellowships by The Mastheads and The Writers' Room of Boston. When she's not ghostwriting or teaching at the literary nonprofit GrubStreet, she's in the woods looking for mushrooms. Her debut novel is in search of a home.

Originally from Florida, Walter Smelt has studied literature, religion, and creative writing ad had poems published in Colorado Review and Subtropics as well as translations in the Battersea Review and the Harvard Divinity Bulletin. Currently, he writes, teaches, and walks dogs in Massachusetts.

Jaime Zuckerman is the author of two chapbooks, Letters to Melville (Ghost Proposal, 2018) and Alone in this Together (Dancing Girl Press, 2016) as well as recent or forthcoming poems in Diode, Forklift: Ohio, Fairy Tale Review, Foundry, Glass Poetry, Prairie Schooner, Thrush, Vinyl and other journals. She serves as the poetry editor of Redivider, the associate editor for Sixth Finch, and a senior reader for Ploughshares. She grew up in the woods but now lives and teaches in Boston, MA.
