Join us for our Emerging Sex Positive Activist workshop at our favorite local sex toy shop!
What kind of activist are you? This workshop is an interactive guide to figuring out how you can use your passion for sexual freedom to create real change. You are most effective when you're doing what you love, so let's figure out how you can take what you love doing (maybe it's writing, researching, starting conversations, making art, nurturing the people around you, or anything else you might be good at) and use it to create a more sexually accepting culture!
This workshop will cover topics of intersectional activism, finding a sex positive community, fostering collaborations, and practicing self care to avoid getting burnt out. We'll also talk about whether or not you need credentials to do the kind of work/projects you're interested in pursuing.
Everyone who comes will get a free copy of our Sexual Freedom Activism Field Guide zine!
Good Vibrations is wheelchair accessible. There are a few handicap specific parking spots in the Centre Street lot that are very close to the front door. The front door is rather heavy and can be difficult to open (if it's a concern, you are welcome to call from outside and an employee will come hold the door open). It is also a relatively small space, but tables and fixtures can be moved out of the way if needed. The store complies with ADA standards regarding space left between walls and fixtures, so it may not be an issue at all.
Who Should Come?
This is for people of all genders, races, generations (18+), etc. Our hope is to have a diverse crowd. Feel free to invite people!
This workshop is led by Nicole Mazzeo, Founder and Director of the Boston-based sex positive activist organization Pleasure Pie (pleasurepie.org). Nicole dreams up much of what Pleasure Pie makes happen. She plans events, makes zines, facilitates discussions, and does lots of behind the scenes work to keep Pleasure Pie in existence.
Nicole is enthusiastic and playful. She loves karaoke, carnivals, and animals (including people). She highly values honesty and openness, and does her best to be as genuine as possible in everyday interactions.
Nicole has extensive training in and experience with implementing workshops on sexual health. She also has training in trauma-informed counseling, family planning counseling, connecting youth to family planning resources, and internal condom education. She has led workshops at Harvard University, Good Vibrations feminist sex toy store, and various sexuality-focused conferences including The Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit and Amorous Revolt.
