Duckling Day 2026 & LEGO's "Quack-struction Zone"

Duckling Day is a celebration of the children’s classic book Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey, held annually on Mother’s Day.

Duckling Day is a free, family-friendly celebration held each year on Boston Common. Duckling Day features activity booths, lawn games, magic, and live music all at Parkman Bandstand. The event ends with a parade, beginning at noon, retracing Mrs. Mallard’s steps to the Make Way for Ducklings sculpture in the Public Garden.

The next Duckling Day will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Register for the event below.

The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with check-in and a goody bag full of Duckling Day-themed items for every child. Playtime on the Common features a wide range of activities including activity booths, lawn games, magic, and live music that take place on the grass at Parkman Bandstand. The area is filled with children, parents, and caregivers who come together to enjoy games and other outdoor activities.  The Parade begins at 12:00 PM noon. 

Playtime on the Common activities include: 

• A free-flowing community play space.
• A duck-themed LEGO® DUPLO® build experience, complete with a larger-than-life Duckling built from LEGO DUPLO Bricks—ready for a photo with you and your little duckling.
• An interactive one-woman circus variety show.
• Magic and delightful mini miracles.
• Face painting by talented artists.
• Live dance performances.
• An opportunity to hang out with our friendly Duckling mascot!
• A visit from a live marching band.
• A Make Way for Ducklings reading station, where the beloved children’s classic is read aloud.
• A dedicated quiet tent.
• Various activity stations presented by our sponsors and much more! All activities are included with family admission.

Special this year: The LEGO Group is bringing a free, hands-on activation to Boston Common in honor of Duckling Day and Mother's Day weekend, inspired by the classic Make Way for Ducklings. Young builders and their families can explore LEGO DUPLO and LEGO 4+/5+ sets designed for little hands, with activities across both days:

• Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. | Quack-struction Zone: Official LEGO Master Model Builders guide families in constructing a larger-than-life Mama Duck, standing over 10 feet tall, from LEGO DUPLO bricks. Kids can contribute their own piece to the build, with build tables throughout and lounge areas for parents.
• Sunday, May 10 from 10 – 11:45 a.m. and 12 – 2 p.m. | Duckling Day Debut: The completed Mama Duck and her ducklings take center stage for the ultimate photo moment, with build tables and free play throughout.
