On Saturday, May 6, 2017, the North American Indian Center of Boston’s (NAICOB) Circles of Support Women’s Program will be hosting Doors Unhinged: An Exhibition of Untold Native Women's Stories. This gala will draw attention to the violence perpetrated against Native women and the hundreds of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women across the U.S. and Canada. In addition, this event will raise funds to support NAICOB and the Circles of Support program.

NAICOB hopes that you will join us for this special evening. Tickets for this event are $100.00 person and guests will enjoy light refreshments, live performances by Native American musicians and dancers, and an exhibition/live auction of doors that share the stories of Native women who have experienced domestic violence. As guests tour the building, they will learn the meaning of each artist’s door.

For Doors Unhinged: An Exhibition of Untold Native Women's Stories, a door symbolizes opening and closing, allowing the transition from one place to another. For one survivor, a door might represent leaving an abusive situation and opening the door to a new life. For another individual, a swinging door might represent leaving an abusive space and entering another abusive space. A door could represent boundaries that a woman has created to protect her body as well as her heart. There are many different meanings a door can hold for a survivor and the ones in our exhibit are just a few. An unhinged door, gives the perception of what once could close and confine, but now has the ability to allow things to flow freely and unhindered.
