Bostonians deeply value arts, culture, community. Join us in-person to hear new research, celebrate, and discuss the future of our sector.
About this event:
The Barr Foundation, Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture, Slover Linett Audience Research, and the Boston Public Library, are co-hosting an in-person convening on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, with around 200 colleagues from across the sector to explore new research findings from the Culture + Community survey of Greater Boston. Come together for an in-person celebration of the deep value of the arts to Bostonians during the pandemic and discuss next steps for action based on community feedback and aspirations.
This research series, funded by the Barr Foundation and conducted by Slover Linett Audience Research, included a survey of thousands of Massachusetts residents to learn about the role of arts and culture in their lives - including their hopes for the future of the sector. It includes special reports featuring the perspectives of people who live in the Greater Boston region - with BIPOC perspectives highlighted - as well as national benchmark data involving 75,000 community members. The research series also includes interviews conducted through conversations with fifty Black Americans across the country. The interview participants generously shared stories and reflections about how cultural activities, creativity and expression, and self-care can contribute to connection and well-being.
This event includes:
1. Welcome
2. A presentation of the national qualitative study: "Black Perspectives on Creativity, Trustworthiness, Welcome and Well-Being," with reflections on the study by Greater Boston leaders
3. A presentation of Boston-specific survey findings with insights by race and ethnicity and a discussion of community-informed action areas
4. Action areas in practice – reflections from community leaders
5. Break-out groups for discussion and connection with your peers
6. Share-back and closing remarks
7. Social gathering – celebrating the arts community coming together in-person
We hope you’ll join us in conversation and connection!
