Our 250th Independence Day has come and gone, but the party continues. Come celebrate New England’s revolutionary heritage as historic Longfellow’s Wayside Inn hosts a Colonial Faire and Muster of Fyfes and Drums.
Step back in time and experience living historians demonstrating life in Massachusetts circa 1775. From military drills to contradancing, weaving to blacksmithing, as well as children’s activities including 18th century games, training with members of the French 85th Regiment Saint Onge and even an opportunity to fire a cannon, the Spirit of America goes on.
At 12:00 following a reading of the Declaration of Independence, the tolling of church bells, as well as a musket and cannon salute will herald the start of the Grand Parade. The air will become filled with the music that helped inspire the cause of liberty, as 25 fife and drum corps from all over the northeast featuring the Middlesex County Volunteers (pictured) process their way to the muster field where they will give individual performances throughout the afternoon.
You may find the music captivating, but don’t forget to stroll the craft booths along merchants’ row and grab a bite to eat at the food court before enjoying your favorite beverage at the Wayside 1716 Beer Garden overlooking the Faire grounds.
