Organized by the Mandel Center For the Humanities in collaboration with the Rose Art Museum and the Robert D. Farber Archives and Special Collections at the Brandeis Library, this interdisciplinary series features engaged looking and active discussion about art and other objects housed in Brandeis collections. In this Close Looking session, Isaiah Wooden (Theater Arts) and Elizabeth Bradfield (Creative Writing) will discuss Adam Pendleton’s Larry Hinton (white) (2012), currently on view at the Rose within the exhibition, Yesterday’s Tomorrow.

This small group conversation will be hosted online via Zoom Webinar. Please RSVP to receive login credentials!

Isaiah M. Wooden, Ph.D., is a director-dramaturg, critic, and assistant professor of Theater Arts at Brandeis University. He has published widely on contemporary African American art and drama in both scholarly and popular venues. Wooden is currently at work on a monograph that explores the interplay of race and time in contemporary Black expressive culture and co-edited the book Tarell Alvin McCraney: Theater, Performance, and Collaboration (Northwestern UP, 2020).

Elizabeth Bradfield is the author of the Once Removed, Approaching Ice, Interpretive Work, and Toward Antarctica. Theorem, a collaboration with artist Antonia Contro, is forthcoming in November 2020. Her honors include the Audre Lorde Prize and a Stegner Fellowship. Founder of Broadsided Press, Liz works as a naturalist/guide and teaches creative writing at Brandeis University. www.ebradfield.com

This program is in conjunction with Yesterday’s Tomorrow. While our physical galleries are currently only open to the campus community, the exhibition can be explored virtually through online materials and installation images.
