ChromaForm explores a pivotal moment in mid-twentieth-century abstraction, when artists began moving away from the emotional intensity of Abstract Expressionism toward a new focus on perception, geometry, and color. Drawn from the Rose Art Museum’s permanent collection, the exhibition features works by Josef Albers, Ralph Coburn, Gene Davis, Ronald Wendell Davis, Al Held, Will Insley, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Mary Lewis, and Leon Polk Smith. These artists use crisp lines, shaped canvases, and vibrant chromatic relationships to invite viewers to reconsider how art can create meaning through visual experience itself.
