It already seems like ancient history when pianist Christian Sands was being called a “jazz star of the future” by luminaries like Wynton Marsalis and longtime trio-mate Christian McBride. Now barely into his 30s, Sands is a six-time GRAMMY Award nominee, widely recognized bandleader, and first-call sideman among the industry’s best. He’s covered so much stylistic ground in his short career that it’s hard to say exactly what tonight’s program will include, but expect a varied program of modern jazz drawing from the music’s many historic roots and contemporary offshoots.
We’d be remiss not to mention our excitement about presenting this fine young artist—and, in fact, this month’s entire jazz festival—at Boston’s Artists For Humanity EpiCenter, an impactful organization that “provides under-resourced teens the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design… [and] prepares Boston’s next generation of makers, thinkers, and leaders to do great things in our community—all while making beautiful art and impactful designs for individuals, businesses, and the community at large.”
