Tribute bands The Warthogs and Byrne’s Big Suit join Niki Luparelli and the Gold Diggers, along with a bevy of burlesque dancers, for a night’s homage to legendary NYC punk club CBGB.
Wisecracking platinum blonde Niki Luparelli, the boozy chanteuse with the pertinacious curves, brings to Oberon the latest of her acclaimed tribute shows, which in the past have honored such icons as Bowie, Madonna, and Led Zeppelin. This one sends a burlesque salute to three bands that began at the New York club CBGB, ground zero for the punk and new wave explosion of the 1970s. Niki’s band, The Gold Diggers, will achieve rapture as Blondie, while The Warthogs will shout “Gabba Gabba Hey!” as The Ramones, and in Byrne’s Big Suit, Talking Heads will come to wild, wild life. Burlesque performers will include Mary Widow, Honey Pie, Jane Doe, Fonda Feeling, Leather Pixie, Dahlia Strack, Divine Filth, Terrortits, and Yummy Hearts. And Boston based comedian and former punk rocker Ken Reid will emcee the evening.
