Caroline Bagenal’s Crossing Lines, on view October 2 through November 3, 2019, is a new body of work at the intersection of sculpture, drawing and painting. Although her practice encompasses works on paper, installation, and sculptural works, the drawn line runs throughout Bagenal’s work. Constructed with reeds and branches, the work in Crossing Lines continues an exploration of the grid, not as rigid geometry, but as an organic living entity whose slightly curving trajectories are evocative of hand-drawn lines. Bagenal’s fluid, lyrical grids reference music, mapping, and weaving, scaffolding and walls, as well as traps and cages. Tracing links and intersections, her sculpture reminds us that objects and actions do not exit in isolation—there is always a connection and an impact.
