Venture capital is a huge part of the startup industry by impact, but a tiny part when measured by headcount. VC can seem like an "exclusive" profession, with few roles open to newcomers and limited options for mobility with a small number of firms.
Beyond "doing your time" at a firm and hoping a higher-level position opens up, what are the options associates, principals, and even partners have for advancing their career?
More firms are being created as seed-stage firms and "micro-VCs" proliferate, but how does someone take the leap to create such a firm?
What are the entry points to VC begin with? And for founders or others with an "operators" background, what should you know before joining the investor side?
We've put together a panel of highly-experienced Boston VCs to answer these questions and more. This session is for:
MBAs, finance professionals, and other "business-background" professionals curious about entry points.

Anyone who wants to know what it takes to start your own firm.
Because space is limited, we ask that those attending do already have a basic understanding of how VC firms operate. You should know: what an LP is, how partners at a firm are paid, why most VCs aim for 10x exits vs what might be more acheivable 2x or 3x exits. Drew Russ' VC 101 overview is an excellent guide to these questions if you're unfamiliar.

Sarah Downey, Principal at Accomplice VC
Sarah A. Downey a Principal at Accomplice, focusing on virtual and augmented reality and frontier tech. Previously, she was Director of Marketing at Ovia Health, a women's reproductive health startup making fertility and pregnancy mobile apps, and Manager of Content and Communications at Abine, a consumer online privacy startup. Sarah also co-founded Rev Boston, an award and event honoring 20 of the top women in Boston tech at the VP or Director levels in their careers.
Nilanjana Bhowmik, Co-Founder & General Partner at Converge
Nilanjana brings a rigorous focus on B2B tech to her role as Converge Founder & General Partner drawing on her 23 years as a venture capitalist, investment banker and operating executive. Prior to founding Converge, Nilanjana was a General Partner at Longworth Venture Partners where she led the firm’s investments in enterprise tech.
