As we gear up for the busiest day of the year, we’re thrilled to bring a unique cultural highlight to our 4/20 lineup. This year, Kush Groove is proud to host a special book signing event with local Cambridge author, attorney, and advocate Joyce Gerber.

Joyce will be at our shop on Monday morning to introduce her debut novel, She’s Taking a Break—a story that perfectly captures the "sophisticated stoner" lifestyle[cite: 16, 18, 19].

A Story Rooted in Cambridge Culture

For those of us who call Cambridge home, this book hits close to home. The story follows Annie McGrath, a cannabis-loving woman who leaves the glitz of LA to return to her childhood neighborhood in Cambridge[cite: 7]. As she navigates family challenges and a complicated past with the boy-next-door—who has since become a local priest—Annie finds her footing through her passion for baking and the community she left behind[cite: 3, 4, 9].

Joyce Gerber describes the genre as "cannabis-friendly fiction," a term she coined to describe stories that feature strong, empowered women who openly consume cannabis without the tired old tropes[cite: 18, 19]. It’s a contemporary romance that asks a bold question: what happens when two sisters, a priest, and a rock star share a joint? [cite: 5]

Meet the Force Behind the Fiction

Joyce is a familiar voice in the world of advocacy. For over five years, she hosted The Canna Mom Show, an award-winning podcast dedicated to changing the narrative around cannabis and caregiving[cite: 16]. Her transition to fiction was born from a desire to see real, professional, and multifaceted women represented in the books we read[cite: 18].

Beyond her writing, Joyce is a true Cambridge local. She lives in the city with her family, is active in civic organizations, and even has degrees from local institutions like Northeastern and Tufts[cite: 20, 22]. Her son Josh describes her as "a force to be reckoned with," and after meeting her, you’ll likely agree[cite: 23].

Join Us for the Signing

Kick off your 4/20 celebrations by supporting local art and ending the stigma. Joyce will be on-site to sign copies of She's Taking a Break, answer questions about her writing process, and chat with the community.

Whether you’re a lifelong Cambridge resident or just stopping by for your holiday supplies, make sure to come through and meet one of the most exciting new voices in the cannabis world.

📖🌿 See you on Monday morning for a high-brow start to our 4/20 festivities!
