Come learn how to make your very own foam-dart-shooting Nerf pistol! This class is designed to be an introduction to the field of homemade Nerf guns; we will not only show you how to assemble your very own nerf pistol out of commonly available parts, but we will also teach you the theory and mechanics behind the design so you can design your own.


These pistols were designed with the novice builder in mind: not only are they as simple as possible for ease of assembly, they are also easily upgraded with additional features. Furthermore, unlike more advanced homemade Nerf guns these pistols are not dangerously overpowered; they are comparable in power and range to Nerf’s current Elite line, and so can be used by children of 8 years and up.


Class Goals:
Their very own Nerf-dart-shooting pistol, understanding of the basic mechanics and physics involved in it’s design and operation (spring power, simple pneumatics).


Prerequisites:
Must be comfortable using a drill


Materials Provided:
Dart gun kit (includes 5 darts), $15. Packs of 25 elite darts will also be available for $10.


What to Bring:
$15 for kit, $10 if you want more darts.


Instructor Biography:
Judah Sher


Judah Sher is an expert in the field of rapid prototyping, with specific focus on making these technologies more accessible. Since graduating from DAAP with a degree in industrial design, he has used CNC routers, laser cutters, and 3D printers professionally, including successfully launching an open-source CNC router on Kickstarter, co-founding a 3D printer startup, and teaching related classes at the Artisan’s Asylum for over a year.
