These days, there are limitless job opportunities within the tech industry. While you might not know as much about the possibilities that exist within tech today, we hope that you will come away from First-Gens in Tech with more insight and information.
Join us on Friday, November 10 for the second annual “Breaking Barriers: First-Gens in Tech,” a day-long event for first-generation young folks from the Greater Boston Area interested in learning more about what it really means to work in tech.
Who is considered a “first-generation"? Any person:
who was not born in the US OR
whose parents were not born in the US OR
who is the first in their family to attend college OR
who is the first in their family to enter the corporate world
Why should you attend?
Our goal for this event is to provide you with the context, community, and real life examples of other first-gen folks doing great things in tech. We will create an opportunity for you to:
Meet first-generation leaders thriving in Boston’s tech scene
Hear from first-gen HubSpot employees from different departments about their experiences starting their careers
Leave with actionable tips and takeaways to help kickstart your career regardless of which career path you choose

Check out the full schedule for the event below:

10:10 - 11:10AM: First-Gens in Tech Panel: How We Got Here
Are you interested in a career in tech, but unsure where to start? We have a panel of folks from different backgrounds with various career journeys and experiences who are going to share their stories about finding themselves in tech.
11:10 - 11:50AM: A Day in the Life: Lightning Talks
"Okay, so you work in tech, but what do you do?" Hear from different folks about what they've been working on during these lightning-fast talks.
11:50 - 12:40PM: Lunch & Networking
Fuel up for the rest of the day while chatting with other attendees and HubSpotters from throughout the organization.
12:40 - 1:10PM: Keynote from HubSpot Co-Founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah

Whether you know Javascript or Illustrator, are an excellent writer or are a customer experience superstar, there is a job in tech that you'd be perfect for. Knowing where to look is the tricky part. We will split into two groups: technical and non-technical. Then, recruiters at HubSpot will go over the different teams and positions that fall into both of these groups.
2:10 - 2:55PM: Landing the Job, According to a Recruiter
Hear directly from a recruiter about the Dos and Don't of finding and applying for jobs. We'll cover everything from where to look to how to format your resume, and even explore whether cover letters are still relevant
2:55 - 3:00PM: Closing Remarks, followed by networking
We'll wrap up the day together, and end it with some professional networking among attendees and HubSpotters.
